Why Excel-formatted SD cards are a breakthrough in data logging technolog y

1.       Cost Savings. Unlike data loggers that use an RS-232 interface, General’s SD card instruments don’t require the end user to buy, stock and connect cables

2.       Easy to Use.  They also don’t require the user to add multiple jumpers between cable connectors to set up a serial communications link via RS-232. Adding even one jumper takes time and makes connections prone to failure.

3.       Save Time. Data is collected and saved in Excel- formatted files, unlike data loggers that usually save data in ASCII codes that have to be configured into comma delineated numeric data format.  This feature saves user time and minimizes error in configuring and manipulating ASCII data.

4.       No software. General’s SD instruments don’t even need  software. They automatically store the data they capture on the SD card in a format readable by Microsoft’s Excel.  Any computer equipped with Excel will enable  the user to configure the data into table or graph

5.       High Capacity. SD cards are now available in capacities up to 32 GB, and because they’re solid-state, SD cards are inherently more reliable than rotating media like CDs or DVDs

6.       Portability. Because SD cards are removable, they’re portable. Once you’re done uploading the data logs from the  SD card to your computer, you can erase the card and use it again
