Titrators

Choose from Hanna Instruments' simple to use and affordable titration systems for the laboratory.

HI 3500 Mini-Titration System
In order to perform titration, you must either use a chemical test kit or an automatic titrator. Chemical test kits are very reliable, but they have poor resolution. Automatic titrators have very high resolution, but are very complex, hard to use and expensive. Until now, there was no middle point between the two. Once again, Hanna is the first in the world to offer a simple to use manual titrator. HI 3500 is easy to understand and very reliable. The high resolution (0.01 pH, 0.1 mL) makes it perfect for use in labs and the field.

HI 3500 consists of several components which can also be purchased separately:

  • HI 3050N This pH meter is built into a powerful stirrer and has a resolution of 0.01 pH. An acoustic alarm will alert the user when the pH level is within 0.5pH points from the set point.
  • HI 3500A The buret is a glass unit which has a central filling tube with clear white division markings. When pressure is applied to the rubber bulb, the liquid is forced up the center tube and overflows into the graduated column. When pressure is released, the liquid level is adjusted automatically to the zero mark. The built-in stopcock allows precision dosing (resolution 0.1 mL) of the reagent. Three different fluid volumes are available for any titration need; 10 mL, 25 mL and 50 mL.
  • HI 3500B The large, sturdy glass reagent container allows up to 100 tests before refilling.
  • HI 3500C The rubber bulb allows the graduated column to be filled when pumped.
  • HI 76503 Teflon® coated, magnetic, 50mm long stir bar.
  • HI 1217D A combination pH electrode with a built-in temperature sensor. The Ultem® body is virtually unbreakable and is resistant to the same chemicals as glass. The built-in temperature sensor allows Automatic Temperature Compensation using only one electrode.
  • HI 76405A Electrode holder. The cantilever arm will adjust to hold the electrode over the center of the beaker. The electrode removes easily from the beaker without interference.
  • HI 76405B This steel base is enamel coated for maximum chemical resistance. All components fit into specially made holders. This base stops the components from moving.
  • HI 3500 is supplied complete with HI 3050N, HI 3500A-1, HI 3500B, HI 3500C, HI 76503, HI 1217D, HI 76405A and HI 76405B.

PL 100 Free Chlorine Measurement through Amperometric Titration
Hanna has manufactured two compact amperometric titrators for you to choose from. PL 100, shown here, measures Free Chlorine while PL 101 is especially designed for Total Chlorine measurements. Both models are supplied with a built-in stirrer to maximize your lab space and optimize test results - all at a competitive price

The Hanna amperometric titration system measures the electrical current between two platinum electrodes of a probe. The platinum electrodes are immersed in a known quantity of a sample containing an unknown concentration of the chemical to be determined. The titration of Free Chlorine can be carried out with a reducing compound such as Sodium Thiosulphate or Phenylarsine Oxide (PAO). When a small voltage of about 0.10V is applied across the two platinum electrodes a small electrical current is generated inside the solution. A reversible reaction (Cl2 + 2e <=> 2Cl-) occurs at both electrodes as the reducible form is oxidized at the anode and the oxidized form is reduced at the cathode. The gradual addition of the reductant (titrant) irreversibly reduces the oxidized form of the Chlorine present. The final removal of all oxidized Chlorine terminates the reversible reaction and the probe current drops to zero. The concentration of Chlorine present in the sample is simply calculated by determining the exact amount of reductant added to extinguish the probe current.

PL 100C is supplied complete with HI 3500A-2 25 mL burette, HI 3500B reagent container, HI 3500C rubber bulb, HI 76503 50 mm (2") long (dia. 7 mm/0.3") magnetic stir bar, HI 3132B glass-body platinum-platinum electrode with 1 m (3.3") cable and BNC connector, HI 76405A electrode holder arm, HI 76405B steel base, HI 710005 or HI 710006 power adapter, recorder plug and instruction manual.

The PL 100 is supplied with 12VDC adapter and instruction manual.

PL 101 Amperometric Titrator for Total Chlorine Measurement
PL 101 has been designed for rapid and accurate determination of total chlorine content of a sample. The amperometric method is often recommended for determining minute traces of chlorine, since it provides a greater degree of accuracy. Amperometric Titrators are used in wastewater, drinking water and ultra pure water applications

PL 101 operates by providing a constant voltage to a dual platinum probe. As the titration proceeds, the electrode current changes and at an endpoint, the slope of the current curve drops abruptly to zero. Sample concentration is then derived from the endpoint value. The built-in stirrer uses a constant 300 rpm speed. The stirrer velocity is such to aid a rapid dilution of reductants yet not cause volatilization of the sample. Both PL 100 and PL 101 are powered by 12VDC adapter for safety and reduction of EMI. The probe voltage scale is 0 to 750VDC while the current is in the 0.00 to 2.00 µA range. The instrument case features a stainless steel top and a large 3 digit LCD display for viewing the probe current. The probe voltage can be electronically adjusted by the operator. Digital potentiometer setting is controlled by two "UP" and "DOWN" buttons right on the front panel. A static digital memory retains the set value even if power is suddenly lost or interrupted. PL 101 also features a recorder output which provides a low impedance voltage from 0.00 to 2.00V corresponding to the probe current of 0.00 to 2.00 µA.

PL 101C is supplied complete with HI 3500A-2 25 mL burette, HI 3500B reagent container, HI 3500C rubber bulb, HI 76503 50 mm (2") long (dia. 7 mm/0.3") magnetic stir bar, HI 3132B glass-body platinum-platinum electrode with 1 m (3.3") cable and BNC connector, HI 76405A electrode holder arm, HI 76405B steel base, HI 710005 or HI 710006 power adapter, recorder plug and instruction manual.

PL 101 is supplied with 12VDC adapter and instruction manual.
