Description and operation

The FB08 is a rectangular bench standing unit. The controls for temperature and fluidizing air flow are mounted on a recessed panel on the front of the unit, together with on-off switches for the power supply and the dust extractor and indicators for various functions. Insulated and vented the outer case is safe to touch even at the maximum operating temperature. The inner container is filled from the top with alumina. When fluidised, this medium is heated by four immersion heaters close to the container wall with the control thermocouple between the heaters. The internal components are protected by an air cutout switch that disables heat in the event the fluidizing air is lost.
    Clean, dry air from an external source passes through two filters and regulators, to reduce the pressure for the cyclone extraction system and fluidization. Fluidizing air passes through a flow meter and then to the plenum chamber from which it is distributed evenly around the inner container. Dust extraction is by means of ambient air drawn from around the probe holder/plate and then through a cyclone to the exhaust filter. Alumina dust removed from the opening of the bath is deposited into the front mounted collection jar where it can be removed and dumped back into the bath.

In operation, set the fluidizing air by means of a combined control valve and flow meter. (Note: air adjustment is automatic with the FB08C) Fluidizing air requirements are inverse of the bath temperature. i.e- lower bath temperatures require more air for proper fluidization. The bath temperature is set by means of a front panel mounted PID controller. Sensors for calibration should be suspended as close as possible to the center of the bath. When calibrating sensors the probe holder is recommended as it is custom built with the dimensions of the sensors you will be calibrating.

Dead-Bed Operation

A major of feature of the FB08 series is calibration using the Dead-bed method. During Dead-bed the power is shut off and 30 seconds later the fluidizing and extraction air are turned off. This causes the alumina to collapse around your work and provides a dense, high thermal insulation environment. For a period of three to ten minutes thermal equilibrium occurs and stability of better then ±0.01°C is observed. Dead bed stability

Models to choose from:

The FB08 is offered in three different models. The standard FB08 operates from +50 to 700°C, in addition to the standard unit the FB08C offers automatic fluidizing air control and is capable of remote PC operation. When connected to your liquid nitrogen supply the FB08LT operates between -100 and +200°C. The single probe plate and ring are included with the baths. You will also receive one 35lb. charge of alumina to get started.

Laboratory Fluidised Baths

Five standard models offer a wide choice of bath sizes and temperature ranges.

 Lab Sandbaths
SB series fluidized baths

Techne SB series Fluidized baths operate from ambient to 600°C, and provide a working environment that is dry, easily accessible, and free from the dangers associated with high temperature oil or salt baths. Our fluidized baths are bench standing, requiring only an electrical and air supply for operation. Air passes through the mass of the AL2O3 particles via a porous plate in the base of the unit separating the individual particles and suspending them in free air, providing the properties of a liquid bath. Heaters in the bath maintain temperatures of up to 600°C. All SB Series Baths incorporate stainless stell inner containers insulated from outer walls, and a safety air pressure switch in the event of loss of air. Baths are controllable to within +/-1°C, making them ideal as general purpose high temperature environments for comparison calibration, metal treatment, distillation, and other high temperature applications. Model TC-8D Temperature Controller

The Techne Model TC-8D digital controller is designed to improve the temperature stability and temperature setting obtainable with the energy regulator which is supplied as standard with SB Series fluidized baths. The TC-8D is a self-contained unit and is supplied with a type K' thermocouple which fits into the sheaths on SB series baths. The TC-8D controller is highly recommended when the application requires an operating temperature above 300°C.

The 12 inch immersion depth of the LCB-12 makes it an excellent choice for use in the calibration of  liquid in glass thermometers, RTD's, thermocouples and fluid filled bulbs. Inventors of the "Clip On" thermoregulator in 1948, Techne® now offers five "Clip On" units. These  Thermoregulators will convert your existing liquid bath or container into a precision temperature controlled bath with exceptional thermal performance. They offer a full range of options such as analog or digital set/readout, high pump output and RS232 interface.

TE-10A 

The TE10A clip on thermoregulator offers a temperature range capability of -20°C to + 95°C, covering most routine laboratory applications. A circulating pump with external circulation connections is standard, as is adjustable over-temperature cutout.

TE-10D, TU-20D, TU-20C, TU-20HT

The TE10D Tempunit offers a temperature range capability of between -40°C to +120°C. There is a digital temperature selector, circulating pump with external circulation connections, adjustable over-temperature cut-out and low liquid level cut-out. The TU20D has a temperature range capability of -40°C to +200°C and incorporates the additional feature of an RS232 port. The top of the range TU20C has additional features fitted as standard including an audible alarm, a high capacity dual pressure pump, cooling coil and also includes an RS232 port. The temperature range capability is -40°C to +250°C.

The TU20HT is designed for internally circulated baths, thus it is not capable of external pumping for re-circulation, but does include the cooling coil, Thermsoft software and has an operating temperature range capability of -40 to +250°C.  For applications that require sub-ambient operation, see our refrigeration units for use in combination with the unheated baths or one of the refrigerated baths for an integrated system.
