OxiTop IS 6, IS 12
Measurement using OxiTop? Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) Instrumentation isbased on pressure measurement in a closed system: microorganisms in the sampleconsume the oxygen and form CO2.ÿ This is absorbed by NaOH,creating a vacuum which can be read directly as a measured value in mg/l BOD.
The sample volume being tested regulates theamount of oxygen available for a complete BOD measurement.ÿ BOD measurementranges of up to 4,000 mg/l can be measured using different sample volumes.
The OxiTop? BOD instrumentation heads (green andyellow for differentiation of inflow/outflow) have an AutoTemp function: if thesample temperature is too cold, the start of BOD measurement is automaticallydelayed (by at least 1 hour) until a constant temperature has been reached.
Apart from the automatic storage of 5 measuredvalues (1 value per day), further measured BOD values can be read at all timesduring or after the period of 5 days, which permits the tracking of check valuesor measurements over longer periods.ÿ The OxiTop BOD Instrumentationmeasurement system also offers simple operation, improved controllability, andnon-toxicity.

OxiTop? Control Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) Instrumentation is an advancedversion of the successful OxiTop? BOD Instrumentation system that usessoftware-controlled functions and an infrared interface to communicate with ahandy controller, the OC 100.ÿ This BOD instrumentation system enables thesimultaneous and grouped start, management, storage and tracking of 100 BODmeasuring heads via the controller and allows them to be tracked on a largedisplay with graphic evaluation.ÿ BOD measurement data can be transferredto the PC for evaluation and documentation via the AK-540/B cable (order no.902842) and the communication program Achat OC (order no. 208990).
The Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) data can becalled up at any time, even during sampling, thus enabling checking of thesamples for errors.ÿ The display of the progress curve allows immediatedetection of irregularities and interferences, such as having the BOD value settoo high for the volume used or undesired nitrification.ÿ BOD measurementcorrections can thus be made at an early stage.ÿ OxiTop? Biological oxygen demand (BOD) determination is still one of the most importantparameters in water resource management.ÿ BOD measurements can be used toevaluate the impact of biodegradable substances in waters and wastewater bymeasureing the quality of water and treatment results in wastewater.ÿ Inaddition, BOD instrumentation measurments are used in the planning and design ofwastewater treatment facilities.ÿ The OxiTop? In routine use, BOD determination is used tocheck the wastewater in the inflow and discharge of wastewater treatment plants.ÿDepending on the measurement site and type of wastewater the BOD value can liebetween a few mg/l and several thousand mg/l.ÿ Several BOD testing methodsare available for carrying out the measurement.
Various systems for BOD determinationmethods
In ?dilution BOD? the oxygen content of a sample is measured with an oxygensensor before and after an incubation period of 5 days.ÿ The differencebetween the measurements is the BOD5 value; this is the official EPA BODmeasurement method.ÿ The Oxi 1970i Portable Dissolved Oxygen Meters can beused for dilution BOD measurments.
In ?BOD self-checks? with the respirometerthe reduction in oxygen causes a definite pressure difference which can bemeasured by a pressure sensor.ÿ This BOD measurement method is very easyand practical to carry out.
